New smartphones to feature AI as OpenAI tests advanced reasoning AI

23/07/2024 | Axios

Smartphone manufacturers are launching new integrated artificial intelligence (AI) features to attract new customers. Samsung has already incorporated AI into its translation and transcription apps for the latest Galaxy models. Meanwhile, Google and Apple are expected to introduce AI-integrated versions of their Pixel and iPhone devices later this year.

Elsewhere, Reuters reports that OpenAI is developing an AI model with advanced reasoning capabilities. The project, codenamed "Strawberry," aims to develop a model that can generate answers to user queries and autonomously navigate the Internet to conduct "deep research."

Meanwhile, The Guardian reports that Meta has released a new open-source AI model, named Llama 3.1 405B, which the company claims to be competitive with similar AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic across a wide range of tasks. Its release marks the first instance of one of the most powerful AI models being available to developers without a controlling intermediary or access fees. According to Meta, developers can fully customise the models, train on new datasets, and conduct fine-tuning, allowing for a broader and more powerful use of generative AI in various applications and environments, all without sharing data with Meta.
