BEUC files complaint over gaming companies' deceptive practices

On Thursday, 12 September 2024, the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), along with 22 members from 17 countries, filed a complaint to the European Commission and the network of consumer protection authorities (CPC-Network) against several video game companies, including Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft, for deceptive in-game purchase practices. The complaint also includes concerns about the collection of consumers' personal data, alleging that privacy policies are misleading and that the companies may be in breach of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Alongside the complaint, the BEUC published a detailed report outlining its allegations.
