The Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner (BSCC) has submitted an addendum to its response to the ICO25 consultation, which closed on 22 September. The BSCC had previously submitted a partial response; this updated submission adds further detail and specifically addresses concerns that the legislative frameworks governing the use of biometric and surveillance technology lag behind what is technologically possible. The effect limits investigations and prosecutions into wide-ranging use cases of technologies, which are being deployed without the support of specific guidance and oversight. The BSCC supports the ICO's intention to produce such guidance under Part 2 of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and hopes this will be of great use to developers and users.
