DPC to issue €500m GDPR fine to TikTok

03/04/2025 | Bloomberg

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) is expected to issue a €500 million fine to TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, for violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) concerning the short video social media platform's data transfer practices, and the lack of transparency about them.

The DPC opened its investigation into TikTok's data practices in 2021.

According to Bloomberg (£), the DPC's final decision, due to be published before the end of April, will include an order for TikTok to suspend the unlawful processing of EU citizen's data in China within a set timeframe.
