Two US pension funds sue Meta over €1.2b DPC fine in 2023

Two US pension funds have filed a lawsuit against Meta in Delaware's Chancery Court. The lawsuit seeking internal company documents claims the company's leadership failed to address poor data practices, leading to a record €1.2 billion fine issued by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) in May 2023. 

The lawsuit claims Meta's senior leaders are responsible for the "historic" penalty, citing a pattern of improper data harvesting, including the Cambridge Analytica scandal and a $5 billion FTC fine. The funds suspect that Meta's leadership has not taken adequate steps to rectify these issues.
