New research by ISACA has revealed concerning trends among data protection professionals in Europe regarding budget constraints and staffing challenges. The study involving 1,603 global respondents, including 351 from Europe, identified that 45% of these professionals believe that their budget is underfunded, an increase from 41% in 2024, with 54% expecting further reductions in 2025.
In addition, only 38% of respondents expressed confidence in their organisation’s ability to protect personal data, while only 24% reported consistently implementing Privacy by Design practices, putting them at risk of non-compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Meanwhile, the report highlights ongoing staffing challenges, with 52% of technical privacy teams cited as understaffed, up slightly from 53% in 2024—another 37% struggle to retain qualified privacy professionals.
