Apple performed CSAM scans since 2019

Apple has been scanning some iCloud users' emails for child abuse images since 2019. The revelations about the prior scanning efforts were allegedly left out of disclosures to customers. Apple also said its scans involved other data not tied to iPhone or iPad backups. The news comes after Apple announced its plans for new cryptography applications to scan users' iCloud accounts for images deemed "Child Sexual Abuse Material."
