CNIL issues €60m ePrivacy fine to Microsoft for cookie violations

The French data protection authority (DPA), the CNIL, has fined Microsoft €60 million for alleged third-party cookie violations. A CNIL investigation identified non-consensual cookie placement and tracking through Microsoft's Bing search engine. The DPA noted Microsoft is both materially and territorially competent under the ePrivacy Directive and has ordered Microsoft to correct its practices within three months or face a €60,000 fine for each day its practices remain non-compliant.
