EU Council introduces amended procedural rules for GDPR enforcement

30/05/2024 | Council of the European Union

On Friday, 24 May 2024, the Council of the European Union published an amended version of its proposal for new procedural rules concerning the enforcement of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Details about the new harmonisation law in the Council's interinstitutional file include the Presidency's invitation to the Permanent Representatives Committee to confirm agreement on the text of the general approach and recommend that the Council reach a general approach in one of its upcoming meetings to facilitate negotiations by the Presidency.

The news follows an earlier report in Politico indicating that recently proposed amendments discussed among member states would provide smaller DPAs with more input on cross-border investigations and potentially set timescales.
