EU reaches provisional agreement on NIS2 Directive

The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have reached a tentative agreement on the NIS2 Directive. The new framework is an attempt to modernise the EU Network and Information Security Directive. NIS2 lays out "the baseline for cybersecurity risk management measures and reporting obligations" across relevant sectors, which include energy, transportation, health along with digital infrastructure. The new framework has a broader scope that includes medium-sized organisations as well as streamlined incident reporting requirements. Organisations have a 21-months implementation period to reach compliance, following final approval and before the directive enters into force.
