DPC opens GDPR investigation into Ryanair's customer ID checks

On Friday, 4 October 2024, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) opened an investigation into Ryanair's Customer Verification Processes following complaints from customers who booked tickets through third-party websites and travel agents. The DPC is looking into the airline's practice of requesting additional ID verification, including the use of facial recognition technology, and whether Ryanair's verification methods comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
