Study reveals extent of cybersecurity skills gap

New research by cybersecurity company RiverSafe has revealed the need for greater urgency in closing the skills gap. The study surveyed 250 UK cybersecurity professionals at the CISO level or equivalent and identified that 17% of organisations failed to report cyber breaches in the past year, and 75% of respondents expressed concerns about insider threats. Furthermore, despite a growing awareness of the importance of cybersecurity, many companies need help to allocate sufficient resources. While 90% of the businesses surveyed plan to increase spending on cybersecurity, 59% feel that their budget needs to increase further. In terms of skills, tools and overall cybersecurity posture. 83% of respondents reported a gap in cyber skills, reflecting widespread challenges in recruitment and training within the industry. Inadequate visibility over devices was also identified as a significant issue, potentially leaving organisations vulnerable to attacks.
