NHS England issues cyber resilience tender in wake of London attack

NHS England has launched an invitation to tender for a £4.3 million contract aimed at bolstering cyber risk visibility, assurance, and resilience in the NHS supply chain. The selected supplier will be tasked with developing a national supplier management platform to monitor cyber security risks. The contract, initially set for a three-year duration with a possible 12-month extension, seeks to address the escalating cyber threat posed by vulnerabilities in suppliers' systems. The initiative is part of NHSE's broader £200 million cyber improvement program, which is designed to achieve strategic outcomes by 2025.

The announcement comes on the back of the ransomware attack on pathology lab services provider Synnovis by Russian hacking group Qilin, which has disrupted several hospitals and GP surgeries in London.

In a related article, Mark Edwards, chief information security officer at Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW), predicted that the number of cyber attacks on critical national infrastructure will likely increase due to escalations in global conflict.
