The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has elected Anu Talus, Finland's Data Protection Ombudsman, as its new Chair with 19 votes out of 27 after two rounds of voting to replace the outgoing Andrea Jelinek.
Irene Loizidou Nikolaidou, Commissioner for Personal Data Protection Cyprus, was also elected as the new Deputy Chair replacing Ventsislav Karadjov.
Article 73 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) states that the EDPB elects a Chair and two Deputy Chairs from its members through a secret ballot. They serve for a term of five years, with the possibility of renewal.
