The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has adopted a statement on the recent judgement by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) concerning limited data processing and retention under the EU Passenger Name Record Directive (PNR). The EDPB said that the judgement "significantly narrows the ways" PNR data can be used and clarified "most EU member states" are not complying with the ruling. To meet the CJEU's requirements, the EDPB urged member states "to take all necessary steps at legislative and/or administrative level" to ensure use of PNR data respects the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
