EDPB announces GDPR and DMA interplay project with EU Commission

On Monday, 9 September 2024, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced that it will work with the European Commission on a project to clarify and give guidance on the interaction between the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The project will focus on the obligations to digital gatekeepers under the DMA where there is a stonng interplay with the GDPR. 

The EDPB also confirmed that a DMA High Level Group had been established to provide the Commission with advice and expertise, ensuring coherent and complementary implementation of the DMA and other sectoral regulations applicable to gatekeepers. While representatives from the EDPB and European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) are already engaged in data-related and interoperability obligations in the High-Level Group, this additional project furthers the cooperation.
