EDPB & EDPS issue joint opinion on COVID Certificate extension

The European Data Protection Board and European Data Protection Supervisor issued a joint statement on the European Commission’s proposed 12-month extension of the EU Digital COVID Certificate. Both the EDPB and EDPS noted the proposal does not alter provisions around the processing of personal data. “Data protection principles should be continuously applied and integrated, having due regard to the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the impact on fundamental rights,” EDPS Wojciech Wiewiórowski said.
