EDPB publish DPC's decisions on Meta's €390m GDPR fine

12/01/2023 | EDPB

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) published its account of the DPC ruling against Meta, calling it an “Important impact on use of personal data for behavioural advertising."

The post includes links to the DPC's final decisions against Facebook and Instagram, available on the EDPB's decision register. In a statement, EDPB Chair Andrea Jelinek said: "The EDPB binding decisions clarify that Meta unlawfully processed personal data for behavioural advertising. Such advertising is not necessary for the performance of an alleged contract with Facebook and Instagram users. These decisions may also have an important impact on other platforms that have behavioural ads at the centre of their business model."
