In its October plenary session on 8-9 October 2024, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) adopted its work programme for 2024-2025.
The EDPB clarified that its main tasks are to:
- To issue opinions, guidelines, recommendations and best practices concerning the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Law Enforcement Directive (LED);
- To advise the EU Commission on issues relating to the protection of personal data within the EU;
- To contribute towards the consistent application of the GDPR, in particular in cross-border data protection cases;
- To promote cooperation and the effective exchange of information and best practices between EU Data Protection Authorities (DPAs).
For its 2024-2025 work programme, the EDPB has identified four central pillars of work, each of which includes a number of key actions:
- Pillar 1: Enhancing harmonisation and promoting compliance;
- Pillar 2: Reinforcing a common enforcement culture and effective cooperation;
- Pillar 3: Safeguarding data protection in the developing digital and cross-regulatory landscape;
- Pillar 4: Contributing to the global dialogue on data protection.
