The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has approved a document updating the procedure for the approval of Binding Corporate Rules (BCR) concerning international data transfers for controllers and processors.
The new procedure stipulates that BCRs must be approved by the relevant data protection authority (DPA) in accordance with the consistency mechanism set out in Article 63 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Once approved, the EDPB will issue a non-binding opinion on the draft decision submitted by DPA.
