EDPS issues opinion on protecting the personal data of EU producers

The European Data Protection Supervisor has issued an opinion on the European Commission's proposal for a regulation on EU geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products. The Commission's proposal aims to help manage the registration and certification of member states' produce under the EU's quality scheme, allowing them to avoid misuse or imitation. The EDPS recommends several measures related to the processing of personal data are needed. For example, there is a need to explicitly specify instances of joint controllership concerning the processing of personal data.
