The European Data Protection Supervisor, Wojciech Wiewiórowski, has announced a series of organisational changes in order to "continuously respond and adapt to the evolving data protection challenges that lie ahead."
Among the changes, former EDPS Director, Leonardo Cervera Navas, has been appointed as the regulator's first Secretary-General to offer strategic advice and supervise the agency's activities. In addition, the EDPS has made changes to the Technology and Privacy Unit to ensure that privacy and data protection principles are embedded within technologies. This includes the creation of specialised sectors for auditing IT systems, anticipating new technologies impact on privacy, and developing independent digital transformation. A task force has also been set up to oversee the use of artificial intelligence in respect of data protection laws. The task force, along with others, will report directly to the Secretary-General.
