European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiórowski has welcomed a proposal for a regulation that introduces security and data minimisation principles in EU-wide cybersecurity requirements. Wiewiórowski said that "harmonised cybersecurity requirements across the EU should reduce the risks for Europeans of being victims of cyber-attacks and of the vast consequences that these may entail, such as the theft and misuse of their personal data." He also commented controllers and processors are obligated to ensure appropriate security in processing personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
