EDPS seeks further EU-Japan cross-border data flow negotiations

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has recommended that the Council of the European Union open further negotiations with Japan for a cross-border data-flow agreement. While the EU issued an adequacy decision to Japan in 2019, the EDPS is seeking clarification regarding "measures that would require controllers or processors to store personal data in the EU (or the European Economic Area)."
