EDPS supports Anti-Money Laundering package

European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiórowski has published his support for the European Commission’s proposed Anti-Money Laundering legislative package. However, Wiewiórowski suggested some improvements to protect personal data. While the proposal takes a risk-based approach to assessing whether individuals present a money-laundering risk, intrusion into individuals’ privacy must be minimised. He also advised including categories of personal data that may be processed within the proposed package.
