EDPS supports EU Commission proposal for asset confiscation

The European Data Protection Supervisor has issued an opinion on the European Commission's asset confiscation proposal. The Commission's proposal aims to help law enforcement in EU member states "identify, freeze, manage, and confiscate assets obtained through" organised crime. EDPS Wojciech Wiewiorowski said that he supports the proposal as it "explicitly underlines the particular importance that the protection of personal data, according to EU law, is ensured."
