As governments around the world implement increasingly stringent data protection legislation, one thing is clear, privacy is here to stay. Perhaps understandably, however, there is a gap between the mandated level of protection and how organisations are interpreting these laws in reality. In turn, there is a disparity between what's happening on the ground and how regulators approach enforcement. This leads to the following question: "what accounts for this gap and what can be done to improve the performance of these laws?"
