European Commission publishes draft DSA auditing methodology

In May, the European Commission launched a public consultation over new digital rules requiring online platforms to allow auditors to assess their algorithms. While there are still many questions surrounding this unprecedented task, very large online platforms (VLOPS) will have to analyse potential societal risks and take risk-mitigating measures. These measures will be subject to independent audits to ensure compliance with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). The European Commission has now published a draft of the delegated act to define the methodology for these audits. However, auditing firms, tech companies, and civil society feedback suggest critical points are yet to be addressed.
