European Council issues new Data Act text

The Council of the European Union has offered its latest compromise text for the proposed EU Data Act. As the Swedish Presidency of the council aims to finalise the proposal, the new text updates requirements for business-to-government data access, international transfers and the interaction with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The latest proposal recognises GDPR legal bases for processing data, while cloud service providers would have to take on additional transparency obligations regarding cross-border data transfers.
