France & Italy offer differing opinions on proposed political ad regulation

Italy has backed a move to prohibit targeted political advertising "based on pervasive tracking" and has called for a total ban on processing sensitive data to target or amplify ads. Italy's comments were in response to the European Commission's proposed regulation placing limits on political advertising. France was more favourable in its comments, confirming that the provisions "strike a delicate balance between two essential elements of democratic debate."
