Members of European Parliament and co-rapporteurs have released new compromise text amendments to Parliament's EU Artificial Intelligence Act proposal. The latest text includes provisions for fundamental rights impact assessments and high-risk system obligations. MEPs will review the proposal during a technical meeting on 11 January.
In related news, EURACTIV reports Germany may seek to influence trialogue negotiations on the proposed AI Act. During the Council of the European Union's Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council meeting on 6 December, German Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Volker Wissing suggested "there is still room for improvement" on various aspects of the proposal despite the agreed stance among EU member states. Areas requiring further attention include biometrics, law enforcement use, AI in the workplace and classification of high-risk AI systems.
