Experienced leadership needed for drafting GPAI code of practice

In an op-ed for Euronews, Kai Zenner, Head of Office for MEP Axel Voss and Cornelia Kutterer, Managing Director at Considerati, write about the importance of expertise and vision in leadership when developing the Code of Practices for General-Purpose AI (GPAI) models.

The authors stressed the need for the chairs and vice-chairs to be capable of ensuring trustworthiness in the AI ecosystem and that the GPAI Code goal should be for a pragmatic interpretation of the state of the art. The authors also called for the selection of the chairs to be based on merit, highlighting the need for strong technical, socio-technical, or governance expertise on GPAI models and practical experience in committee work on a European or international stage.
