Former MEP discusses ePrivacy and CSAM regulations

In a recent interview with Euronews, former German MEP Patrick Breyer outlined his concerns about the lack of interest in defending digital rights among current MEPs and noted the diminishing priority of digital revolution in the European Commission's agenda, compared to five years ago when it was on par with climate change.

On the challenges faced in reforming the EU ePrivacy regulation, Breyer cited industry lobbying and the position of the Council, which largely ignored privacy concerns. He fears this could eventually lead to the Commission withdrawing the proposal.

Regarding the controversial child sexual abuse material (CSAM)  regulation, Breyer warned that a potential majority of support for the proposal could be reached if further concessions are made, even if the core privacy and encryption issues remain unaddressed.
