The European Commission has announced that the AI Office has published the second draft of the General-Purpose AI (GPAI) Code of Practice under the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). The latest version includes stakeholder feedback on the first draft, published in November, and aims to "future-proof" the Code for models released after 2 August 2025, when the new rules on general-purpose AI models start to apply.
In related news, Member of the European Parliament Axel Voss writes in an op-ed for EURACTIV that the AI Office will need to grow from 85 to over 200 staff in order to effectively implement the AI Act next year.
