On Thursday, 25 July 2024, the European Commission announced that it had opened infringement proceedings against six member states for failing to comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA).
The Commission confirmed that it has a letter of formal notice to Belgium, Croatia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden as they have yet to appoint a competent authority under the Digital Services Act (DSA). EU member states had until 17 February 2024 to designate a Digital Services Coordinator to supervise online intermediaries under the DSA.
In related news, the Commission has opened infringement proceedings against Ireland for failing to designate the competent authorities to implement the Data Governance Act (DGA).
