EU Commission sends RFI to X about its recommender systems

On Friday, 17 January 2025, the European Commission announced that it had sent a request for information (RFI) under the Digital Services Act (DSA) to Elon Musk's X platform to understand recent changes to the company's recommender systems along with access to the company's APIs that allow fact-finding on content moderation. X has until 15 February to respond to the RFI. 

In addition, the Commission has issued a 'retention order' requiring the platform to preserve relevant internal documents until 31 December 2025 or until the Commission concludes its investigation.
