EU Multistakeholder Expert Group publishes GDPR evaluation report

13/06/2024 | European Commission

On Monday, 10 June 2024, the European Commission's Multistakeholder Expert Group tasked with evaluating the application of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) published its report

The report highlighted several positive developments in data protection compliance, awareness of data protection rules, along with increased use of the right to access and the right to erasure. However, the report also noted concerns about a lack of awareness among data subjects about other rights and how to exercise them. In particular, the report pointed to issues regarding automated decision-making, data portability, compliance with transparency obligations, and the application of the GDPR in line with other regulations. Additional concerns were raised about the adoption of Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for data transfers and the enforcement of the GDPR in cross-border cases due to a lack of coordination between data protection authorities (DPAs).
