EU strategic competitiveness report highlights GDPR & AI Act complexity

On Monday, 9 September 2024, the European Commission published a competitiveness report addressing the challenges faced by industry and companies operating within the Single Market. The report by former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi comes in two parts: 

The competitive strategy report includes a few mentions of data protection and artificial intelligence (AI), such as the fragmented implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the window of opportunity for Europe to redress innovation and productivity failings through the adoption of AI technologies. 

The in-depth analysis and recommendations report goes into further detail about how and where the complexity of the GDPR and Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) can potentially undermine developments by EU industry.
