European Commission establishes scientific panel under AI Act

The European Commission has established a new scientific advisory group of independent AI experts to support the implementation and enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). The panel will provide technical advice to the AI Office and national authorities to support AI governance initiatives, assist in enforcement efforts, and have the authority to alert the AI Office to potential risks posed by general-purpose AI models. Having adopted an implementing act to establish the panel, the Commission plans to launch a call for expressions of interest to select the experts.
