On Tuesday, 10 September 2024, the European Commission announced that it hosted the inaugural meeting of the EU Artificial Intelligence Board (AI Board) in Brussels following the EU Artificial Intelligence Act's (AI Act) entry into force on 1 August. The AI Board is made up of representatives from the Commission and all EU Member States, as well as observers from the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) and EEA/EFTA representatives from Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. The EU AI Office acted as the Secretariat.
The agenda for the first meeting included:
- Establishing the AI Board's organisational structure and adopting procedural rules;
- Updates on EU AI policy, including the GenAI4EU initiative and international AI activities;
- Progress updates on the Commission's initial deliverables of the AI Act's implementation;
- An exchange of best practices and national strategies to AI governance and AI Act implementation.
