European Commission introduces proposal on AI liability redress

The European Commission has adopted a proposal to harmonise rules concerning consumer redress in the Artificial Intelligence Liability Directive. The proposed rules will entitle consumers to bring legal claims for damages "caused due to wrongful behaviour" with AI technologies. The Commission said that the basis for claims could include "breaches of privacy, or damages caused by safety issues." Claims could also be brought "if someone has been discriminated in a recruitment process involving AI technology."
