European Commission publishes first draft of the GPAI Code of Practice

14/11/2024 | European Commission

On 14 November 2024, the European Commission published the first draft of the Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI (GPAI), part of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) enforcement mechanism developed by the AI Office and independent experts. The draft will be discussed with around 1,000 stakeholders next week. The Chairs and Vice-Chairs presented it as a first step towards the final version, which aims to guide the safe and trustworthy deployment of general-purpose AI models, including transparency and copyright rules. The Code will also cover risk identification, assessment measures, and governance strategies for providers of advanced AI models that could pose systemic risks.

The Code will be reviewed and discussed by each of the four working groups ahead of a presentation of the key insights at the full plenary on 22 November.

Additional commentary and legal analysis from Pinsent Masons.
