European Parliament approves PNR data sharing agreement with Canada

The European Parliament has approved an agreement allowing the transfer of air passenger data from the EU to Canada. A total of 521 MEPs voted to support the agreement, which establishes rules for transferring and processing passenger name record (PNR) data, including contact details, seat numbers, and luggage information.

The agreement includes provisions that prohibit the processing of sensitive data and ensure that individuals can access their data and correct any inaccuracies. It also establishes data retention periods.

Under the agreement, Canadian authorities will share relevant analytical information derived from the PNR data with EU law enforcement agencies.
