Concerns over influence of the UK Government's AI advisor grow

UK venture capitalist Matt Clifford has come under scrutiny for his significant influence on UK artificial intelligence (AI) policy. Having advised both Conservative and Labour governments, Clifford played a vital role in establishing the UK's AI Safety Institute and AI Safety Summit, as well as leading the government's AI policy review. Despite his intentions to position the UK as a leader in AI safety, many media and tech executives are concerned that his influence has resulted in an overly narrow focus on safety issues like the potential for AI to generate chemical weapons at the expense of broader challenges, such as algorithmic bias and copyright violations, which continue to pose significant risks.
