A total of 45 high-profile individuals, including Prince Harry, actor Hugh Grant and former Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable, are attempting to draw Rupert Murdoch into their legal battle against News Group Newspapers (NGN), a part of Murdoch’s News Corp, publisher of The Sun and previously the News of the World. They claim he was aware of the illegal practices carried out by his British tabloid newspapers years before the News of the World was closed down in 2011. Lawyers acting for alleged victims of phone hacking and other unlawful activity are now seeking approval from the High Court in London to add additional allegations to their civil lawsuits against NGN.
