A new NHS England progress report indicates that adoption of the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) in England has progressed over the past six months. According to the report seen by the Financial Times, 87 acute NHS trusts and 28 integrated care boards have opted to use the platform. While overall adoption has not met the NHS target for all 42 integrated care boards to be signed up by November, 71 out of 215 NHS trusts have signed up by the end of the year.
Despite scepticism among some health leaders regarding the FDP's effectiveness, positive outcomes have emerged. These reveal a 37% decrease in hospital stay durations reported by one trust during a pilot. At the same time, other trusts using the platform also experienced a monthly increase of 114 more inpatient treatments in operating theatres.
