Almost 2100 fines issued since GDPR came into effect

An analysis of the fines issued under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) since it came into effect in May 2018 by Finbold reveals that 2,083 fines have been issued in total, amounting to €4.5 billion (£3.84 billion) by the end of April 2024. The research also identified that of the 76 penalties issued to organisations found to have violated GDPR provisions, they paid an average of €1.1 million (£940,000) per day in the first 120 days of 2024.
