Italian DPA fines perfume chain € 1.4M

The Italian data protection authority (DPA), the Garante, has fined perfume chain Douglas Italia €1.4 million for EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) violations. Through its investigation, the DPA found the company maintained the personal data of over 3 million customers without obtaining consent. In addition to the fine, the company is required to introduce compliance measures covering data retention along with data processing for marketing and profiling purposes. In addition, the DPA ordered the company to delete data from the past 10 years.
