Hogan Lovells response to DCMS proposal to reform data protection law

Law firm Hogan Lovells has responded to the DCMS proposals to overhaul the UK's data protection framework in its consultation Data: a new direction. In its response, Hogan Lovells presents a largely supportive narrative for the government's attempts to "encourage greater innovation, through making specific and targeted changes to data protection law." However, in reading the detailed response, there are clear warnings against diverging from the standards set within the GDPR, particularly for accountability purposes such as removing obligations to perform DPIAs, appointing a DPO and maintaining records of processing.
