A review of binding corporate rules is overdue

In an op-ed for the IAPP, the Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL), President Bojana Bellamy, CIPP/E, discusses the state of international data transfers. Organisational approaches to data transfers require continuous examination and consideration, particularly for European businesses transferring data out of the European Economic Area. While EU standard contractual clauses (SCCs) are the go-to transfer mechanism after updates in recent years, binding corporate rules (BCRs) are an overlooked alternative. The article outlines the effectiveness of BCRs and that a review in light of EU regulatory developments is long overdue.
